Hello there!

I’m Birdie and I live in Antwerp, Belgium. I’ve been a Playmobil addict since I was about 5 years old, when I got the 3552 playground set as a present:

Then the girl next door, who was a bit older, gave me all of the seventies Playmobil sets her family had had from when they were little kids. The space ship, the blue circus, several colour sets, horses and knights, helicopters and the yellow garbage truck. I remember how it truly felt like finding treasure in the attick!

I was about 7 years old when Playmobil introduced the Victorian theme, still my absolute favourite. My collection grew with every birthday, Christmas and special occasion that involved a present.

Here's a picture of me at 12 years old: I even took my Playmobil with me to the beach!

I used to peer over catalogues for hours on end, and really enjoyed seeing the diorama’s with a combination of items from different themes and realistic backgrounds.

Now I've turned that into a full-blown hobby myself. I have an extensive collection of Victorian, western, medieval and city life sets, and I love creating diorama’s and sharing pictures of them on the Playmofriends forum. In January I made a diorama with my Victorians:

Furnishing the interiors can take hours, but it's so much fun! I always try to make the clickies come to life in their appropriate setting.

Another thing I love is visiting Playmobil fairs in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Luxemburg and Germany. The diorama’s of other collectors are so inspiring. The sellers usually have some special sets I can buy to complete my collection.

My boyfriend Mitri always accompanies me on these trips and at one point he caved and started collecting too: the Roman and Egyptian theme is his favourite. I happily use his purchased sets to create more diorama’s :-)

Most recently, I finished a western diorama with old sets and items from the DS catalogue:

It's taking up a big part of the living room, but it's fun to look at or change things around a bit.

Last summer I made a diorama of a medieval castle...

... and my clickies decided to have a jousting tournament :-)

Next time I'd like to do a modern city life diorama - hopefully I'll get to integrate the new daycare that I think is so cute.

Thank you for taking an interest in my little projects. And most of all: thank you Playmobil for this wonderful toy that has given me so much joy, throughout my childhood and in my adult life!

Best wishes,

Birdie
